A Santa Clara County tradition for over 50 years, the Teacher Recognition Celebration is the oldest and largest celebrations of teachers in California and the most prestigious local award given to classroom teachers.
The Teacher Recognition Celebration every fall honors the county's finest teachers, each selected by their respective school districts.
Teacher Recognition is celebrated with teachers who meet the following:- Have been named as a finalist in their District
- Have demonstrated leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls that embodies lifelong learning
- Have expressed themselves in an engaging and articulate way
Locally, the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers conducts a nomination process whereby peers at each school site nominate one of their colleagues as their site's Teacher of the Year. One of these teachers is then recommended as a finalist to the county as the District's Teacher of the Year.
We are pleased this year to honor all the MHFT peer-nominated teachers and to send Frankie Kellett, English teacher at Ann Sobrato High School, as this year's District finalist to go to the county's Teacher Recognition Celebration. |

In a 2018 survey performed by the California Department of Education (CDE), school districts cited a lack of facilities as the main reason for not offering full-day kindergarten instruction. In 2018-19, this program was allocated $100,000,000 from the General Fund to provide one-time grants to school districts that would like to construct new school facilities or retrofit existing school facilities in order to provide full-day kindergarten instruction.
The program was extended in the 2021-22 Budget Act with an additional $490,000,000 and expanded eligibility to include full-day California Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten programs.
School districts applying for grant funds for a transitional kindergarten (TK) and full-day kindergarten facilities project must pass a resolution at a public meeting of the governing board of the school district stating the school district's intent to offer, or expand enrollment in, a transitional kindergarten program.
The Morgan Hill Unified School District plans to expand the existing transitional kindergarten over time to offer instructional opportunities for TK students at all elementary schools in the district as well as either retrofit the classrooms currently housing kindergarten students to meet the updated kindergarten design requirements or build new kindergarten compliant classrooms.
