As a governing body responsible for the direction and policies of the school district, the Board is obliged to have access to accurate information regarding the wellbeing and status of children, locally and statewide. The Board is obliged to understand and consider policies and practices that serve the best interests of students. The Children’s Movement of California is a highly respected, unbiased, and data driven network that reports annually on the wellbeing of children and advocates to make children’s health, education, and welfare the priority of all state lawmakers.
In service to the mission of the Morgan Hill Unified School District – to create learning environments where all students are empowered to achieve their unique potential – the Board seeks to stand with other organizations throughout the State to demand that all lawmakers prioritize the educational success and empowerment of kids. The Children’s Movement of California, hosted by Children Now, is a network comprised of 4100 education, business and community groups. The Morgan Hill Unified School District is recommended to join the Children’s Movement and thereby join a statewide chorus of education, health and social service, parent and student leaders in advocating for stronger supports for kids. |

The purpose of this study session is to highlight our district’s current focus on student, parent and community engagement. To begin the discussion, it is important to anchor our work on what we mean by student and parent engagement; draft definitions will be presented that can clarify and guide our work on these important efforts. In addition, we will provide an update on the family/community engagement plan from 2018, an overview of the LCAP Goals 2 and 3, extracurriculars and communication strategies. Attached to this item is a draft powerpoint. Additional data points will be presented during the Board meeting. The information and discussion during the study session will highlight key next steps that will allow our school district to enhance student, parent and community engagement.
